Pectus Carinatum Bracing

Doing Everything We Can to Prevent Surgical Intervention

What is pectus carinatum?

Pectus carinatum is a chest wall deformity in which the middle of the chest sticks out further than is typical. Sometimes it involves the bottom part of the ribs as well. While typically does not cause pain or other symptoms, it can cause some self-consciousness and feelings of embarrassment in those who have it. Because it is asymptomatic, insurance almost never covers treatment for it, which means that it is typically an out of pocket cost for families.

Bracing for pectus carinatum

At Wright O&P we provide comfortable, inconspicuous bracing that compresses the front and back of the chest cavity as the patient grows. Over time the compression is increased and the deformity decreases. Each brace is custom-made using measurements and a three-dimensional scan of the chest and back. Braces can also be made to manage rib abnormalities as well.
